It also happened when Dick Cheney, Powell and Schwartzkopt met Saudi King Fahd, they showed him doctored photos of Iraq troops and tanks poised just across the border in Kuwait. They convinced him to allow a large US military force onto Saudi soil, giving the US its long sought foothold in the region. This deception was soon exposed. The AQ Japanese newspaper obtained satellite photos showing no Iraqi troop buildup in the area.
Despite Pentagon pressure to bury this story, Jean Heller decided to pursue it, obtaining more photos. Exposing the fraudulence of the US claims. A great disinformation campaign surrounded this war.
It happened again when Kuwait officials hired the world's largest PR firm, Hill and Knowlton, to sell the Iraq war…to manipulate public opinion. On October 10th at hearings sponsored by Congress’s human rights caucus, a 15-year-old girl testified that she had been a volunteer in a Kuwait hospital when Iraqi troops burst in. She described what she had witnessed: ‘They took the babies out of the incubators, took the incubators and left the babies on the cold floor to die.” Bush cited the story repeatedly, making a case for war: “It turns your stomach to listen to the tales of those who have escaped the brutality of Saddam the invader. Mass hangings, babies pulled from incubators and scattered like firewood across the floor.”
It was later discovered that not only was the young witness lying about having been at the hospital, she was the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States, and a member of the ruling family. By the time the fraud was exposed, the US bombing of Baghdad had already begun!
